Despite breaking up in 2000, beloved but underappreciated grunge outfit Screaming Trees will release a new album on August 2 via Sunyata Music aptly titled Last Words: The Final Recordings.
Recorded in 1998-9 at a studio owned by guitarist Stone Gossard (Pearl Jam), the album remained unmixed and unreleased up until this year, when Screaming Trees drummer Barrett Martin got his hands on it. Enlisting help from legendary producer Jack Endino, Martin mixed and packaged the album, which features performances from R.E.M.’s Peter Buck and Queens of the Stone Age’s Josh Homme, the band’s guitarist during that period.
Last Words will see a digital release on August 2 with physical copies to be made available shortly thereafter. There are, however, no plans for a reunion.
