90s Power Pop Outfit That Dog to Reunite for August Troubadour Show

Los Angeles-based power pop outfit That Dog announced earlier today via Facebook post that they will be reuniting in the near future for a show at The Troubadour in West Hollywood.

Scheduled to perform a show on Friday, August 26 at The Troubadour, That Dog also announced that their set will consist of songs requested by fans via a topic on their Facebook discussion board.

Consisting of vocalist and guitarist Anna Waronker, drummer Tony Maxell, bassist Rachel Haden and violinist Petra Haden, That Dog originally formed in 1991 in Los Angeles and released a double 7” via Magnatone Records in 1992.

Touring and recording with the likes of Weezer and Beck (both lablemates during their run), the band’s 1994 self-titled release achieved moderate success. Their 1995 effort, Totally Crushed Out!, was not a success and its large associated tour followed suite, ultimately alienating Waronker from the music industry.

April of 1997 brought the last release from That Dog in the form of Retreat from the Sun. Touring behind that album with bands such as Counting Crows and The Wallflowers, that year That Dog saw their only radio hit with “Never Say Never.”

Despite that success, That Dog announced that they would call it quits in September 1997. The upcoming August show will be their first in 14 years.
