Clarence Clemons, original member and saxophonist for Bruce Springsteen’s E Street Band, has suffered a massive stroke. According to close associates he is currently in recovery at a Palm Beach County hospital.
The report of Clemons’ stroke broke Sunday evening on 411.com. According to 411, “he is said to be seriously ill after a stroke at his home in Florida.” 411 also reported that members of the E Street Band have been told to get to Florida soon.
However, his condition has improved since the story initially broke. The Chicago Tribune has reported that close friends to Clemons have informed the E Street Band fan site Backstreets.com that his condition is improving at a remarkable rate.
“His vital signs are improving. He’s responsive. His eyes are welling up when we’re talking to him. He was paralyzed on his left side, but now he’s squeezing with his left hand,” a close friend told Backstreets.com
Though the imposing 69-year-old “Big Man” Clemons has weathered medical ailments in the past requiring surgery, the massive stroke which he suffered over the weekend required two subsequent brain surgeries over the past two days.
Despite the stroke and surgeries, the saxophonist is in a stable condition, stated Backstreets.com.
