Anthony Gonzalez, frontman of the French electro-pop act M83, recently revealed that his band’s upcoming followup to their 2008 release, Saturdays=Youth, will feature collaboration with synthpop savior Zola Jesus.
Reportedly a double album, the as-yet-untitled release will hit store shelves sometime in October and features an orchestral sound, at least on the Zola Jesus collab.
“[It] is very orchestral and very big. It’s almost like a duet,” said Gonzales of the Zola track in a recent interview with Spin.
Other contributors to the album include Justin Meldal-Johnsen (Beck, Nine Inch Nails) and former Medicine guitarist Brad Laner. Interestingly, Morgan Kibby, who was responsible for much of the vocals and keyboards on Saturdays=Youth, reportedly did not play a large role in the production of this album.
“We’re best friends. And she’ll be on tour with me again. It’s just I want every album to be a bit different,” said Gonazales of Kibby, who contributed some vocals and lyrics.
According to Gonazales, the album is “mainly about dreams” and compares the differences between dreaming as a child, teenager and adult with epic pop music accompaniment.
“I’m really proud of it. If you’re doing a very long album, all the songs need to be different and I think I’ve done that with this one. Overall, it’s pop– and very epic,” he told Spin.
