YOLA and Charles Bradley Join Global Soul

Musical director Rickey Minor, Stevie Wonder, and guests including the Youth Orchestra Los Angeles, Sharon Jones, and The Soul Seekers, will take the Hollywood Bowl on a tour of soul sounds across culture, genres, and generations on Sunday, July 24, 2011 at 7 p.m. as part of the 89.9 KCRW World Festival series.

Charles Bradley, Janelle Monae, Grace Potter, Rocky Duwani, Ceci Bastida, and Bombino will also appear. Rickey Minor, YOLA, and select artists from the performance will also be on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno on July 21.

Minor, best known for his work with American Idol and The Tonight Show with Jay Leno, has also worked with a number of artists, including Usher and Sting, and worked as musical director for the Super Bowl and Grammy shows. He is a three-time Emmy nominee for outstanding music direction.

A tribute to the 40th anniversary of Marvin Gaye’s 1971 What’s Going On will follow the global repertoire on the evening’s agenda. KCRW’s Garth Trinidad will host.

Michelle Rick: I like Pop Rocks, and believe your life is incomplete if you've never seen Forrest Gump. I recently saw the Counting Crows live, for free, and it was not good. I was supposed to interview David Hasselhoff once but he never showed. And I love the band that was once Oasis.
