Marvin Gaye Gets Anniversary Re-Issue

May 31st marks the date that the box set of Marvin Gaye’s What’s Going On will hit shelves, released by Motown/UMe records in celebration of the song’s 40th anniversary. The set will include two CDs, a vinyl LP, and additional features. 14 unreleased tracks, instrumental jam-sessions, alternate takes, demo versions, mono single mixes, and non-album tracks accompany the remastered edition of the original album. The single “You’re the Man” is among the extras.

The booklet included with the set features two essays and rare photos from the album’s cover shoot. The LP version of the first release of the album’s original mix, known as the “Detroit mix,” and features a reproduction of the album’s original packaging.

Stevie Wonder will perform with the Rickey Minor band in a tribute concert at the Hollywood Bowl with guests Janelle Monáe and Sharon Jones on July 24th. Prior to that, John Legend and the Roots will perform with the National Symphony Orchestra in Washington D.C. this month.

Michelle Rick: I like Pop Rocks, and believe your life is incomplete if you've never seen Forrest Gump. I recently saw the Counting Crows live, for free, and it was not good. I was supposed to interview David Hasselhoff once but he never showed. And I love the band that was once Oasis.
