The Elected – Bury Me In My Rings

2011 Winner

Having gone off the radar for the past five years since the under appreciated Sun, Sun, Sun, Blake Sennett and The Elected team are back with their third album, Bury Me In My Rings. Rilo Kiley fans will also rejoice as the guitarist/vocalist brings his breezy keyboards, cushioned vocals and 70s pop style beats, just in time for summer spin plays.

While the album may take a few to spins to warm up to, there are a few break out hits that will keep fans enticed enough to give the album another go around. Opening the album is “Born To Love You,” a lazy and laid-back song that is simplistic at its core in both beats and lyrics, a perfect song for any summer session with engaging xylophone paired with corpulent cymbals. “Jailbird,” is a sure fire indie radio hit overflowing with soft harmonies and steep piano and primitive acoustic guitar layers.

However the true album highlight is “Babyface” that will be a fan favorite with overlaying of synth keyboards, hand claps and the adding in of beautiful harmonies to create a catchy, upbeat absorbing song.

Bury Me In My Rings overall will tied fans over and while it would have been great to see The Elected dive deeper outside of their comfort zone to expand musically on various levels, the album is still a considerably great listen. Hopefully fans won’t have to wait another five years to hear where The Elected go.
