Amidst a jungle of archaic industry in the outer reaches of Silverlake lies Capsule Studio and Pressing Plant. The huge hangar, converted into an independent studio, is the site of one of the few remaining vinyl manufacturing boutiques. Utilizing a score of renovated equipment from the 80’s, this place becomes the perfect site for the Stone’s Throw 15 Year Anniversary Celebration.
Peanut Butter Wolf, founder of Stones Throw, oversees the concert from the comfort of his turntables adjacent to the stage. The decade-and-a-half old label began as a vinyl only project “by DJs, for DJs” and the live performance was recorded directly to vinyl with no post production needed. No CDs or digital copies are available of this rare performance, only 7” and 12” records.
And what a performance it was. With Mayer Hawthorne & The County headlining, bringing their harmonic singing, songwriting, and contemporary rock stylings to a point of refined purity, and jazz rock group Rick on support, along with Peanut Butter Wolf DJing in between sets, they managed to create a flawless live performance which will forever be preserved onto record.
