The tribute album, Rave On Buddy Holly, will be made available June 28 via Fantasy Records. The album comes just in time to celebrate Holly’s 75th with an ode to the outstanding, inspiring musician from other outstanding artists who have been deeply inspired and touch by the man. The tribute album will feature a multitude of artists from various genres and backgrounds, including Paul McCartney, The Black Keys, Julian Casablancas, Modest Mouse, Cee-Lo Green, She & Him, and plenty more. Shortly after summer’s kickoff, Fantasy Records will bring us Rave On Buddy Holly, a 19-song collection of classic Buddy Holly songs covered by some of today’s best artists, from soul singers to fun duets, to alternative groups, and quite a few in between.
Not only have the artists recorded phenomenal covers of his orignals, but all the songs have been left to the artists’ interpretations and imaginations. This means some songs have been rethought, remastered, redone to the artist’s liking, putting an exciting twist on the covers. Sone songs underwent entire face lifts, while others are simply tweaked here and there to fit the performer’s style. Either way, the nontraditional nature of this unique tribute album gives both Holly fans and fans of the covering artists something more to look forward to.
A pioneer of the rock’n’roll movement, along with a fantastic performer and talented songwriter, Buddy Holly would be turning 75 this fall. Although his devastating, sudden death only granted him a short life of 22 years, his legend lives all throughout music today, through the sounds, souls, and hearts of musicians everywhere.
