Unexpected Violence at SXSW Leads to Doubt Over 2012

Due to the number of incidents at this year’s SXSW, organizers of the music festival plan to collaborate with the City of Austin to limit free events next year.

Among the reported incidents are accidents and attacks – Ben Weasel of Screeching Weasel attacked two women at a Friday night show at the Scoot Inn. The L.A. Times and witnesses report that the attacks stemmed from Weasel’s anger over ice being thrown onstage.

That same day, an unauthorized camera boom came crashing down on a crowd at an OMD performance at Stubb’s. Though the injuries were minor, four people were sent to the hospital.

SXSW Managing Director Roland Swenson said:

“It’s really disheartening to us. We’ve been doing this for 25 years. Fortunately nobody has ever been permanantly injured.”

Michelle Rick: I like Pop Rocks, and believe your life is incomplete if you've never seen Forrest Gump. I recently saw the Counting Crows live, for free, and it was not good. I was supposed to interview David Hasselhoff once but he never showed. And I love the band that was once Oasis.
