Mötley Crüe has been chosen to receive the “Elmer Valentine Award” by West Hollywood’s legendary The Sunset Strip. An award ceremony will take place August 18, following the start of the fourth annual three-day music festival, SSMF.
The Thursday, August 18 award celebration will take place at House of Blues Sunset Strip, kicking off three full days jam packed with music and other festivities, which is to be held on August 18-20 at the Sunset Strip Music Festival.
Mötley Crüe has a sentimental connection with The Sunset Strip. Like many other famous musicians, it was the location of the jumpstart of their career, where they played their very first shows at Hollywood’s notorious Whisky A Go Go and Roxy Theatre. It was also the location for the filming of their music video for “Kickstart My Heart”. The award seems very appropriate for these hardworking rockers.
“It’s an honor to be recognized by the Sunset Strip Music Festival,” says Mötley Crüe drummer Tommy Lee. “It means a lot to us that we are recognized for our contribution to this historic place.”
SSMF Executive Director Todd Steadman also elaborates on their choice of Mötley Crüe for the award.
“Bursting onto the scene in the early ’80s with a sound and style that blended punk, glam and heavy metal, Mötley Crüe helped re-establish The Sunset Strip as one of the top music destinations in the world..the band has forever left their mark on the music industry and The Sunset Strip, and we’re looking forward to celebrating their influence and bringing their spirited energy to this year’s tribute event.”
