Trent Reznor Turns Down Vampire Hunter, Continues on with Year Zero Miniseries

Trent Reznor took to his website’s forums yesterday to announce that he will not be part of the upcoming Tim Burton/Timur Bekmambetov film, Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter, contrary to his announcement last week.  The good news, however, is that Reznor is fervently working on the upcoming HBO miniseries, Year Zero, which is based off of Nine Inch Nails’ 2007 concept album of the same name.

Reznor said last week that Bekmambetov was interested in having the NIN frontman compose a score for the film, a la The Social Network, and perhaps make cameo.  After receiving copious amounts of speculation-filled e-mails, Reznor announced that he would be part of the project—a bit of news that, evidently, was not meant to be.

There is, however, no bad blood between Reznor and the film’s crew, as Reznor’s announcement was simply premature.  In his post on the NIN forum, Reznor explains that, at the time, he “ hadn’t made up my mind completely, because various aspects of the project were changing” and that he wishes the film well.

Check out Reznor’s full post below:

“Don’t believe everything you read. As it turns out, I WON’T be working on (acting or scoring) ALVH after all. There’s no juicy story here, it’s just that when the news mysteriously leaked out about my involvement I hadn’t made up my mind completely, because various aspects of the project were changing. I felt the need to say something earlier this week because my inbox was filling up with speculation, and at that moment I thought I would be doing it. Confused yet? Apparently I am.
Bottom line, I wish them the best with the film and I’m sure it will still be great.
Also, in all the excitement of the last note I forgot to mention we’re still fully engaged with the Year Zero mini-series, writing away.”

Year Zero currently has no specific release date, as it is still being written.  Names attached to the sci-fi project include producers Kevin Kelly Brown (Roswell) and Lawrence Bender (Pulp Fiction) and writer Daniel Knauf (Carnivale).

Beyond writing Year Zero, Reznor also has a couple of other projects going on, including an upcoming album from How to Destroy Angels and NIN’s continuation.
