Tyondai Braxton to Perform with Orchestra

Tyondai Braxton, former frontman of Battles, is preparing for a show at Alice Tully Hall in New York City. The March 7th event will see Braxton perform pieces from Dutch composer Louis Andriessen and the full orchestral version of his 2009 record Central Market.

Braxton rescored the record after its release, adding synths and six guitars in addition to other instruments.

Tyondai, the son of jazz musician Anthony Braxton, said:

“If I had started thinking about the live aspect, that record would never have happened.” Backing up Braxton will be the 30-member Wordless Music Orchestra, another group known for blurring the edges between rock and orchestral music

The event is part of Lincoln Center’s Tully Scope Festival.

Michelle Rick: I like Pop Rocks, and believe your life is incomplete if you've never seen Forrest Gump. I recently saw the Counting Crows live, for free, and it was not good. I was supposed to interview David Hasselhoff once but he never showed. And I love the band that was once Oasis.
