New Smiths Tribute to Feature The Wedding Present, Doug Martsch (Built To Spill) and more

Connecticut label American Laundromat Records has compiled an impressive artist list for a new tribute to The Smiths, including The Wedding Present, Doug Martsch of Built to Spill, and more.

Please, Please, Please: A Tribute to The Smiths is set for a fall 2011 release. For the cover of the album, the label secured rights to use a photograph of Sandie Shaw, an English pop singer who covered The Smiths’ “Hand in Glove” in 1984 and later collaborated with the band. The label also tapped rock-poster designer Lonny Unitus (Apples In Stereo, The Decemberists, Willie Nelson) to design the cover art and eco-wallet packaging.

American Laundromat is offering three limited-edition, pre-order bundles from their website. The bundles range from $13.00 (CD & Promo Pin) to $35.00 (CD, 7” Vinyl, T-Shirt, Free Digital Download, Promo Pin, and Album Preview prior to release date).
