According to Rolling Stone‘s tech blog, the popular ‘Guitar Hero’ series will retire, and no new games will be made. Check out the franchise’s statement after the jump.
Activision announced the shutdown today through the release of their 2010 financial statement:
“Due to continued declines in the music genre, the company will disband Activision Publishing’s Guitar Hero business unit and discontinue development on its Guitar Hero game for 2011. These decisions are based on the desire to focus on the greatest opportunities that the company currently has to create the world’s best interactive entertainment experiences.”
Luckily though, for us video game jammers. not all “Band” games are affiliated — Rock Band is still going strong, and word is there will be a Duets Pack coming out for Rock Band 3 soon. Stay tuned!
