After first reporting of her hospitalization yesterday, we now regret to report that Trish Keenan, vocalist for English electronic band Broadcast, passed away this morning from complications arising from pneumonia. Keenan had been on life support since Christmas.
Keenan’s manager Martin Pike revealed details of her illness to Spinner today, stating, “She had been in Australia, and had stayed on to see relatives and she had come back home and fell ill when she was back in England.”
Since their formation in 1995 with Keenan on vocals, Roj Stevens on keyboards, Tim Felton on guitar and James Cargill on bass, Broadcast has released four studio albums, two compilations and endured various member changes.
Broadcast’s label, Warp Records, released the following statement regarding Keenan’s death:
It is with great sadness we announce that Trish Keenan from Broadcast passed away at 9am this morning in hospital. She died from complications with pneumonia after battling the illness for two weeks in intensive care.
Our thoughts go out to James, Martin, her friends and her family and we request that the public respect their wishes for privacy at this time.
This is an untimely tragic loss and we will miss Trish dearly – a unique voice, an extraordinary talent and a beautiful human being. Rest in Peace.
As part of one of the more influential electronic band’s of the past decade, Keenan touched many lives with her music. Last year, Keenan and Broadcast were selected to play All Tomorrow’s Parties. In 2005, MXDWN selected Broadcast’s third album, Tender Buttons , as one of its top five albums of that year. Keenan’s voice, talent and personality will be greatly missed.
