Ramones Honored With Lifetime Achievement Award

For the first time ever, the Grammys will be awarding the Lifetime Achievement Award, which receives special recognition, to a gang of punk rockers.  The band to take the spot for being the first punk band to receive the award is no other than The Ramones.
Taking the punk rock scene by storm since the middle of the 70s, the Queens locals have been providing al-aged Americans with classic, edgy singalongs for decades with 14 studio albums produced over a span 0f 22 years.   They’re finally getting the recognition they deserve from the Grammys by being the first Punk band to hold title of Lifetime Achievement.

In their honor, a special private celebration will take place a day prior to the Grammys ceremony on February 12 of next year.  Although three of the five original band members have sadly passed in the last decade, Tommy and Marky Ramone will be more than proud to take the award on behalf of the group.

Fellow recipients of the Lifetime Achievement award include country star Dolly Parton, gospel singer George Beverly Shea, Julie Andrews of The Sound of Music fame, jazz percussionist Roy Haynes, Julliard String Quartet, and folk revivalists The Kingston Trio.  Oddly enough, all recipients except the Ramones have previously received a Grammy.
