Deluka – You Are the Night

On The Pulse of Nightlife

Do you hear that? That sizzle is the sound of Deluka’s debut album hot off the press! You Are the Night is chock-full of rambunctious indie hooks and electro grooves that will keep the party going well into the night. Just be sure to keep a fire extinguisher close by.

This album has more hooks than a fishing boat. Each verse, chorus, and bridge was carefully crafted to squeeze the most appeal out of every note. The feel of the album ranges from dream-like to down and dirty. Ellie Innocenti’s vocals are stellar in their own right with beautiful vibrato and attitude. At times they are electronically manipulated like rapid-fire robot speak that compliment the electro-sound well. The three elements of electronic synths/keys, stinging guitar, and heavy drums and bass combine to make a powerful sound behind Ellie’s seductive vocals. The synths are polished and prominent in the album. The sound ranges from NIN-style saw tones to 80s hip hop sounds. The fuzzy overdriven guitar work pierces through the speakers and makes you want to grit your teeth and bob your head. Tom-intensive, pounding drums and driving bass lines provide a solid framework for the melodies to soar.

“OMFG” leads off the album with a heavy driving beat and super catchy chorus. Ellie lets out her inner diva to a catchy guitar riff in “Snapshot” with the lyrics “Everybody’s lookin’ at me.” “Come Back to Me” projects longing and a dream-like state as in the stand out “Cascade,” which sounds like it could have been written by U2. Deluka conveys that first-time excitement of big city nightlife in “Capital City.” It has an epic jam out at the end, which is a fitting end to the album.

Musical elements chemically combine on You Are the Night and explode like fireworks over a city skyline. Deluka’s electro-pop debut will keep you burning the midnight oil at the club so you can burn up the dance floor.
