New Album, Tour Dates for Deer Tick

Deer Tick frontman John McCauley and guitarist/vocalist Ian O’Neil have announced eight shows in January 2011, where the band plans to cater to a more intimate audience. The tour will feature songs from their 2010 album, The Black Dirt Sessions, as well as covers, older Deer Tick songs, and music from Middle Brother, McCauley’s other project.

The Black Dirt Sessions was recorded last year at Black Dirt Studios in upstate New York. Songs like “Goodbye, Dear Friend,” and “Christ Jesus” explore a stripped-down sound of nothing but McCauley and a piano. The album is deeply personal, and seeks to deliver an outpour of collective heart from the band.

Though previous Deer Tick shows have gained notoriety for their raucous, spontaneous moments, this record seeks to portray a different side of the band and showcase their maturity as musicians. In the past couple of years, the band has been hailed “The country-rock breakthrough of the year” by Rolling Stone, played festivals such as Coachella and Monolith, performed on Pentagon TV, starred in a documentary that will be released next year, and toured with the likes of Neko Case. They’ll be making their debut appearance at Lollapalooza next year.

John McCauley planted his roots as a teenaged singer-songwriter in Providence and has since made a name for himself in country rock as the backbone of Deer Tick.
