Buffalo Springfield last performed together in 1968, and a lot of things have happened since then – man walked on the moon, the Internet was invented and Lady Gaga did some weird things. But last weekend the remaining living members of the rock group reunited at Neil Young’s annual Bridge School Benefit Concert and played a set of classic rock for fans who were lucky enough to be in attendance.
Buffalo Springfield broke up in May 1968 amidst arrests for drug possession and the deportation of their bassist, and many of the band’s members went on to bigger things, specifically Neil Young and Stephen Stills. However, the band left behind a big legacy for its existence (only two years), including the hit “For What’s It’s Worth.”
For the scheduled reunion, some fill-ins needed to be procured – original drummer Dewey Martin passed away last year, and bassist Bruce Palmer died in 2004. Young’s longtime bassist Rick Rosas took Palmer’s spot, and Crosby, Stills and Nash drummer Joe Vitale manned the drum kit. The band played a 40-minute set that included “Mr. Soul” “Burned” and the aforementioned “For What It’s Worth.”
