October 19 marks the physical release of KOKAYI’s sophomore album, Robots & Dinosaurs, which is already available digitally.
Washington DC’s own Carl Walker, better known by his stage name, KOKAYI, is a Grammy-nominated singer, songwriter, producer, and emcee. The man is a solo artist, but plays multiple instruments and creates beats that diverge greatly from popular mainstream music heard today. The album name, Robots & Dinosaurs, comes directly from the top of his six year old’s Christmas wish list. After asking his son what he wanted for Christmas and getting his response, he was immediately inspired to create an album that appropriately mixed the sounds of old and new school, much like the combination of futuristic robots and prehistoric dinosaurs.
The album goes beyond a simple and consistent sound. Pulling from the styles of hip-hop, electro, soul, acoustic, and indie, Robots & Dinosaurs is an album KOKAYI is finally satisfied with and proud of. With dignity, KOKAYI says, “I realized my dream with this album.”
