Pavement Show Signs of Wear and Discontent at Last Night

Nothing’s confirmed so we can’t speculate per se, but Pavement showed some disconcerting signs at last night’s Matador Records 21st Birthday Party in Las Vegas’ Palms Casino.  Smashing guitars, sound issues (neither the audience nor the band seemed to be able to hear their music), and an overall “icy” demeanor from all five band members are the least of the worries.  During the set Malkmus said the following:

“It’s great that Matador organised this event, I think it’s going to be important that you came here.”

Either he’s really into Matador records or he’s hinting at another break-up.  The band got back together in 2009 and starting touring in March.  Apparently things have gotten tense.  We’ll see what develops.
