MGMT‘s record label decides to minimize their funk and lose some of the weirdness in the upcoming production of their third album due to a lack of sales in this year’s album, Congratuations.
Early sounds of the band are reminisced as psychedelic and electronic. Despite their massive fan base, however, the band began rethinking things once they saw sales plummet for Congratulations, released in early 2010.
MGMT’s Andrew Van-Wyngarden confirmed that their record label would be more involved this time around with this album, inevitably meaning less creative control by the actual band members. Van-Wyngarden also suggested that his band’s careless and gloomy attitude during the production of Congratulations could have damaged its sales as well. He ensured, however, that his band is in a much better mental state and is prepared to redeem their reputation in record sales.
