The Boss Announces Massive Box Set Release

Bruce Springsteen has announced details for the forthcoming box set “The Promise: The Darkness On the Edge of Town Story,” set for release Nov. 16 on Colombia Records. The set includes over six hours of film on 3 DVDs and two hours of music on 3 CDs. And there’s more…after the jump.

DVD footage includes never-before-seen footage of Darkness-era studio sessions and live performances. Prominently featured is the 90-minute album documentary film “The Promise: The Making of Darkness on the Edge of Town” by director Thom Zimny, which will premiere at the Toronto Film Festival on Sept. 14, and on HBO on Oct. 7. Twenty-one previously unreleased songs from the Darkness studio sessions will be included in the set, as well as a fully remastered version of the entire album. You can preview one of the unreleased tracks, “Save My Love,”on the Boss’ website, here. Below is a full track list of all 3 CDs.

In addition to all these treats is an 80-page notebook containing facsimiles from Springsteen’s original notebooks from the recording sessions, which include alternate lyrics, song ideas, recording details, and personal notes in addition to a new essay by Springsteen and never-before-seen photographs.
