A San Jose, CA resident was killed Thursday in an apparent suicide attempt at a Swell Season concert being held at the Mountain Winery in Saratoga, CA. The victim, one Edward Pickels, 32, reportedly leapt from the venue’s three-story roof to the stage while the band was setting up for their next song.
According to a San Francisco Weekly report, medical professionals present in the audience attempted to perform CPR on Pickels for over an hour before he was pronounced dead at the scene.
Pickels, who attended the concert with a friend, reportedly climbed the side of the building to get to the roof. Witnesses say he then made his way to the roof’s peak before jumping off as the band finished a song. Pickels landed three stories below on an onstage speaker near Swell Season vocalist Glen Hansard.
The band released a statement regarding the event via Hot Press:
“The band, crew and all involved with them are shocked and saddened by the unfortunate events of last night. Their hearts go out to the victim and his friends and family.”
Glen Hansard and Marketa Irglova have been taking messages regarding the event via their individual Twitter accounts.
Our condolences to all those involved.
