Two weeks ago Chicago’s Riot Fest announced an impressive initial lineup of punk bands that’d be taking the city by storm October 6th-10th. Today festival organizers announced more punk greats that’ll take part in the festival, including Cap’n Jazz, Pennywise, Jello Biafra and the Guantanamo School of Medicine, The Bronx, Busted at Oz, Torche and Kylesa.
Of special note is the Busted at Oz performance, taking place at the Double Door on October 6th. The Busted At Oz compilation album documented the birth of Chicago punk, containing the earliest recordings of Naked Raygun, Strike Under, The Effigies, Silver Abuse, Da! and Subverts. Fans at the scheduled show will see the early Naked Raygun line-up (Jeff Pezzati, Santiago Durango, Camilo Gonzales, Jim Caleo), The Effigies (John Kezdy, Earl Letiecq, Paul Zamost, Steve Economou), The Subverts (original lineup), Steve Bjorklund, Da! (original lineup), Silver Abuse (original lineup) and Toothpaste (original lineup). Proceeds go to benefit the Chicago Coalition for the Homeless (http://www.chicagohomeless.org/).
In addition to the new bands announced today, festival organizers have revealed what bands will be reuniting at this year’s festival. They include:
- Snapcase, playing their first show outside their hometown of Buffalo in years
- Articles of Faith, playing with their original line-up for the first time in 25 years
- Bhopal Stiffs, reuniting for one Riot Fest show only
- New York crossover giants Cro-mags
- Negative Approach and
- Corrosion of Conformity, returning with the original three-piece “Animosity”-era line up of Mike Dean, Reed Mullin and Woody Weatherman, performing songs from “Animosity” and “Technocracy”.
