The “big four” in metal (Metallica, Slayer, Anthrax, and Megadeth) joined forces on stage after 30+ years of individually making music. At the Sonisphere Festival in Sofia, Bulgaria, the bands came together for a legendary night – also broadcasting it live in theaters around the world for those who couldn’t attend the show.
Members from all four bands performed the finale (sans Tom Araya, Kerry King and Jeff Hanneman.) The medley of artists played Diamond Head’s classic “Am I Evil?”, a song previously covered by Metallica. The three bands’ vocalists – James Hetfield, Joey Belladonna, Dave Mustaine – alternated verses of the song. Many fans were shocked to see these members share the same stage, considering several past tensions that exist between some of the bands. However, none of that seemed to matter that night in Bulgaria.
