Dead Confederate – Encore/Obscure Magpie Party

Athens, Ga. quintet Dead Confederate cut through all the fat and woke up the sleepy cold Saturday revelers with a fierce set of gigantic, bottom driven dream rock. Maneuvering a perfect balance of insane sustain and a hammmering Hammond B-3 weaving in and out of the walls of reverb, the band delved into tracks from Wrecking Ball, their latest release. With the ghosts of My Bloody Valentine and Nirvana bouncing off of the walls, the set was eerie, dense and magnificently loud. Singer Hardy Morris brought out the full tilt pain and full on revelation in songs like The Rat and Goner, while his croaked lyrics were catapulted into the threshhold of a psych rock battlefield.

This was a showcase that raised the bar as the temps dropped throughout the day.
