Broken Social Scene – IFC House

In a rare treat for indie rock fans, seven members of Broken Social Scene performed an in-studio set at the stellar IFC House. Through most of the set frontman Kevin Drew (sporting a cowboy hat) made leisurely jokes with the audience, laughing about whether they could keep guitars in tune and temporarily offering to take requests before pulling back on the offer when all the requests were songs they weren’t prepared for. Drew sang most of the songs, but other band members (such as Brendan Canty) cycled up to the mic for their own tunes. The set was highly entertaining but took an odd turn at the very end when Kevin Drew chastised fans in attendance who were filming the show. Drew equated it by saying, “Next time you’re masturbating imagine my face watching you.” He further stated curiously, “The internet is the biggest editor of all and it’s bad, and it’s gonna change.” Understandable on some level, but it came off as a bit of a tantrum and a let down after the fun set.
