New Documentary Attempts to Answer the Question: “What Is Music?”

New documentary “The Heart Is A Drum Machine” (Lightyear), released yesterday on DVD, attempts to answer the question “What Is Music?” by speaking with couple people who know a thing or two about making it.Director Christopher Pomerenke spoke with Isaac Brock (Modest Mouse), Wayne Coyne (The Flaming Lips), Britt Daniel (Spoon), and Andrew VanWyngarden (MGMT), among others, in an attempt to understand the primal human need for music.  The Flaming Lips‘ Stephen Drozd wrote and performed the film’s score.

“The Heart Is A Drum Machine” is out on DVD now and will be available On Demand starting April 1. The film will also be shown in a special screening tonight, March 10, at the American Cinematheque in Los Angeles at 7:30 p.m.
