Austin, Texas-based indie band The Octopus Project will be bringing something novel to SXSW this year – a “sixteen-sided audiovisual panorama” piece entitled Hexadecagon. The performance will consist of eight speakers surrounding the crowd in a circle, who in turn will surround the band while eight images are projected overhead. The band will apparently be able to control the sound of the show, sending music, for instance, spinning in a circle around the crowd or jumping between speakers. The band will have similar control over the video portion of the event, which can be synchronized with the sounds or can perform entirely differently.
The Octopus Project (Peek-A-Boo Records) will perform Hexadecagon at two free, all-ages shows on the rooftop plaza of the Whole Foods on March 19th at 7:30 p.m. and 9 p.m. at SXSW.
