Vampire Weekend has topped the Billboard 200 chart and debuted their second album, Contra, in the No. 1 spot. The New York band sold 124,000 copies and beat out Ke$ha‘s Animal (No. 3) and Susan Boyle‘s I Dreamed A Dream (No. 2). Vampire Weekend’s triumph in the No. 1 spot also marks the 12th time an independently distributed album has topped the Billboard 200 chart since 1991.
