Loudon Wainwright at The Keswick, December 4, 2009

Loudon, Philadelphia hopes you grab that Grammy Award. Two times close but no cigar, this will be your year! Whether you give your acceptance speech in that pink tuxedo and plaid cummerbund or not, time has revealed that your confrontational style, raw humor and instantaneous access to topics most folks are too tentative to discuss, are and should be at the heart of political as well as personal discourse.

You gave your audience at the Keswick Theater in Glenside, PA a dose of your dry, adroit humor, offended some and reminded us to protest the inequitable when we don’t understand or agree, laughing all the while.

Your ambitious double album, High Wide & Handsome: The Charlie Poole Project, reflects on personal themes such as sorting through a dead man’s clothes, taking his widow to bed and piecing through the life of another with dark, reflective humor.

It takes real guts to get up there and sing the “Drinking Song”, cutting poetry, or to put it your way, “a manly art.”
