Band Moonwink’s at Traditional Sounds
The Spinto Band is randomness at its best. Ranging in sound from Beach Boys remix to saloon music, Moonwink has catchy lyrics and a poppy indie beat that lures listeners in.Light, fun Moonwink begins with “Later On” which incorporates great vocals, a variety of instruments including a piano solo and a constant play on words. Another highlight on the album is “Alphabetical Order,” which rather than being something that would be sung on Sesame Street, is a song with fun lyrics like “Would we need arranging if A means nothing? / and finding it means meandering in between the ends of nothing in writing / Order all together deciding whether, H-E-T, or A-B-C for Alphabetizingetting choices.” The album concludes with “The Black Flag,” which, with background singers humming along harmoniously, is reminiscent of American Bandstand.
The Spinto Band’s sound is a mixture of many styles that don’t traditionally mesh, and while Moonwink make take awhile to grow on listeners, ultimately, the band pulls off their quirky album gracefully. Their sound is classic but at the same time refreshing. By the end of the album its hard not to dance along.
