Performance Royalties Act Goes to the House

The House Judiciary Committee voted 21 to 9 for the Performance Royalties Act to go to The House of Representatives for a vote. It took the committee three-hours to come to a decision, and only one of three amendments offered was passed. Representative Maxine Waters (D-CA) was in support of the bill and embraced the amendment which would reduce the fees to small broadcasters.

Waters has been heavily lobbied and has also received phone calls from stations such as Salem Christian Talk (KKLA/Los Angeles). Waters only concern was the financial impact of the broadcasters in general, and the minority broadcasters particularly.billboard.biz
