Coachella 2009 – Girl Talk

Easily the winner for the first day of the festival, Girl Talk played an explosive mix to an overflowing Sahara tent. The crowd, a writhing mass of fans either fighting to inch forward or backward, with the fan himself surround by a stage full of boosters and seemed like extended members of his entourage. Girl Talk’s mixes are a nonstop freight train of musical mashups, blending Biggie with “Tiny Dancer,” and effortlessly shifting from Cheap Trick’s “I Want You to Want Me” into a knockout combination of Lil Jon’s “Get Low” and Metallica’s “One,” the crowd was driven to a joyous frenzy. Chief among the highlights were the fantastic additions of Daft Punk’s “One More Time” coupled with Belinda Carlisle’s “Heaven is a Place on Earth” and MGMT’s “Kids” introducing Tag Team’s “Whoomp, There It Is.” Almost any of which inciting an elated reaction from the audience. Even though some naysayers might decry the technology used, Girl Talk is the real deal. A certainty for the main stage in future years.
