9/9/2009 is looking to give Beatles fans a huge blow to the wallet. Along with the highly anticipated The Beatles: Rock Band, Apple Coprs Ltd. and EMI will be reissuing The Beatles’ original UK catalogue on the same day.
22 years after the first remastering, the catalog of arguably rock’s greatest act ever will be re-tooled for re-appraisal. Like the first time out, there will be no bonus tracks, but each individual album will feature a new booklet filled with historical notes as well as recording information. For those with questions as to what comprises The Beatles’ original catalog, it includes the following.
Please Please Me
With the Beatles
A Hard Day’s Night
Beatles for Sale
Help!
Rubber Soul
Revolver
Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band
Magical Mystery Tour
The Beatles (The White Album)
Abbey Road
Let It Be
Past Masters
Yellow Submarine
In addition to Past Masters Vol. I and II being condensed into a single package, each album will include a mini-documentary on its making directed by Bob Smeaton. These will be included as QuickTime files. Past Masters will not contain one since it is a compilation of The Fab Four’s non-album singles.
For those really looking to see the bank account evaporate, there will also be 2 box sets made available the same day. There will be a set including all of the aforemention along with a DVD compilation of all the mini-documentaries that will be in stereo. There will also be a mono box set including 10 of the albums along with 2 further discs covering similar territory to Past Masters. The selling point for this set will be that the mono Help! and Rubber Soul discs will include the 1965 stereo mixes that have never been released on cd.
This announcement has been greeted with questions of digital distribution of The Beatles catalog. While discussions will continue, nothing new in this vein can be revealed.
For those who remember at the beginning of this story that The Beatles: Rock Band was mentioned. The pricing breakdown for the game will be as follows:
The Beatles: Rock Band game for Xbox360, PS3 and Nintendo Wii: $59.99
The Beatles: Rock Band standalone guitars: $99.99
The Beatles: Rock Band Limited Edition Premium Bundle: $249.99
And now, cue the music…
