The digital age has transformed the way music is distributed and consumed by the masses. To combat pirated albums and offer the fans a little more bang for their buck, forward thinking bands like Radiohead and Nine Inch Nails have released their latest albums as free downloads, or as a part of exclusive packages with band memorabilia and other various goodies. Now, Former NiN drummer Josh Freese has taken the concept several steps further and is offering his new solo album, Since 1972 with such schwag as “a trip to Disney Land†and “A hair cut in the Parking Lot of the Long Beach Court Houseâ€. The packages range in price from $7 – $75,000 and includes such strange items as Josh joining your band for one month and a no questions asked trip to Tijuana. His website has very few details about the album other than the name, the release date and the prices. Is it simply an elaborate publicity stunt or perhaps- just maybe, the future of pop music? Only time will tell…
