Damon Albarn’s score for his Gorillaz-inspired opera, Monkey: Journey to the West will be found on shelves in the coming months. Meanwhile, the opera will be staged in London July 23.
There will be 22 songs on the CD to be released by XL Recordings. There will also be a vinyl boxed set will also be available from Village Factory Ltd. The release date hasn’t been set.
With Monkey coming to fruition, Albarn and his collaborater, Jamie Hewlett aren’t resting on laurels. They’ve begun work on Carousel, a project they believe will be more difficult than Journey to the West and may end up as a film, or album, or both. “Damon’s written around 70 songs for it, and I’ve got great plans for the visuals, but right now, at this moment, it’s still just a really good idea,” Hewlett said of the project.http://www.billboard.com/bbcom/news/article_display.jsp?vnu_content_id=1003830226
