Pumpkins Work With Fairey on Album Cover

The reunited Smashing Pumpkins have turned to acclaimed illustrator Shepard Fairey to design the cover for their comeback album Zeitgeist.

Conjuring a number of topical political themes, the Obey Giant graphic designer has created a cover depicting a drowning Statue of Liberty in front of a rising or setting sun.

Pumpkin mastermind Billy Corgan says “Like a great artist can do, Shepard had summed up very simply a lot of complex themes…He also used the type font from our very first single, and I asked him about it and he had no idea. He was just on point.”

Fairey’s previous work includes various ant-war posters and posters for the film ‘Walk the Line.’

Zeitgeist is due out July 10th.
