Notorious B.I.G. Death Anniversary Sparks Big Sales

This past week marked the 10th anniversary of the death of the Notorious B.I.G., aka Biggie Smalls or Christopher George Latore Wallace. Bad Boy Records’ commemorating release Greatest Hits, a 17-track “best of” LP, was #1 on Billboard’s top 200 sales chart. While it was the lowest grossest of his top debuts, the album did end up being the third ever #1 debut for the Notorious B.I.G.
B.I.G.’s debut Ready to Die opened at #15 on the chart in 1994, while 1997’s posthumous Life After Death and 1999’s Born Again both debuted at #1. Greatest Hits only moved 92,000 copies, making it the third week in a row where the top Billboard album did not surpass 100,000 copies.
