This past week marked the 10th anniversary of the death of the Notorious B.I.G., aka Biggie Smalls or Christopher George Latore Wallace. Bad Boy Records’ commemorating release Greatest Hits, a 17-track “best of†LP, was #1 on Billboard’s top 200 sales chart. While it was the lowest grossest of his top debuts, the album did end up being the third ever #1 debut for the Notorious B.I.G.
B.I.G.’s debut Ready to Die opened at #15 on the chart in 1994, while 1997’s posthumous Life After Death and 1999’s Born Again both debuted at #1. Greatest Hits only moved 92,000 copies, making it the third week in a row where the top Billboard album did not surpass 100,000 copies.
