New Arcade Fire Breaks Records for Merge

The Arcade Fire’s sophomore disc Neon Bible has only been on the market for a week, and has already managed to bring in the highest first week revenue for any new album released by Merge Records. Thanks in part to being publicized in every Sunday electronic-store periodical as well as a poster campaign in all Borders stores, the album moved a total of 92,000 copies, landing it in 2nd place on The Billboard 200. This album was in particularly heavy competition considering its release date, as other indie darlings Air, !!!, and RJD2 all released new material on the same day.

Arcade Fire’s 2004 debut, Funeral, has sold over 327,000 copies in the United States.
