thecityofbrass (6:55:36 PM): hooray!
baker2thextrme (6:56:09 PM): Just wanna get this off my chest real quick, I cannot believe there were 6100 people brave enough to take a copy of K-Fed’s album to counter and purchase it.
baker2thextrme (6:56:16 PM): lol
Muzzakfan (6:56:25 PM): what a great christmas gift
mxdwnrobert (6:56:30 PM): haha
thecityofbrass (6:56:34 PM): hahahahahaha
penguinonesie (6:56:43 PM): haha, what about the 60 people who went to his concert
audiovirus2828 (6:56:48 PM): oh god
Muzzakfan (6:56:51 PM): its painful
baker2thextrme (6:56:52 PM): It was on the cnn ticker
audiovirus2828 (6:56:57 PM): talk about 5 seconds of fame
Muzzakfan (6:57:00 PM): ouch
penguinonesie (6:57:13 PM): man, i was going to nominate that, you ruined it
audiovirus2828 (6:57:17 PM): hahahah
Muzzakfan (6:57:22 PM): well there is still Paris Hilton
Muzzakfan (6:57:28 PM): 😀
penguinonesie (6:57:33 PM): and Sexyback
audiovirus2828 (6:57:38 PM): definitely
Muzzakfan (6:57:42 PM): ok but thats a good song
audiovirus2828 (6:57:48 PM): yeah it is
Muzzakfan (6:57:49 PM): I dont care what anyone says
audiovirus2828 (6:57:52 PM): haha
thecityofbrass (6:57:58 PM): hahaahaha
thecityofbrass (6:58:06 PM): Justin-fied!
penguinonesie (6:58:17 PM): it gets old after you;ve heard it 5798759 times, especially when sung outside your window
audiovirus2828 (6:58:32 PM): haha
penguinonesie (6:58:34 PM): ray knows what I’m talking about
thecityofbrass (6:58:35 PM): hahaahaha
thecityofbrass (6:58:39 PM): by drunkards?
Muzzakfan (6:58:45 PM): oh no
penguinonesie (6:58:51 PM): yup
thecityofbrass (6:58:55 PM): alright, we’re ready to roll!
thecityofbrass (6:59:00 PM): everybody good to go?
baker2thextrme (6:59:11 PM): roger
penguinonesie (6:59:22 PM): rabbit
Muzzakfan (6:59:31 PM): dodger?
audiovirus2828 (6:59:46 PM): yup!
thecityofbrass (6:59:59 PM): final round!
baker2thextrme (7:00:03 PM): fight!
thecityofbrass (7:00:08 PM): Danielle, you’re first
thecityofbrass (7:00:13 PM): i knew someone would do that
thecityofbrass (7:00:26 PM): haha
audiovirus2828 (7:00:36 PM): 😛
penguinonesie (7:00:51 PM): A lot of my choices were already nominated, but I’m still very stuck between two albums, so if someone else has this down as their AOTY, you can have it
penguinonesie (7:01:17 PM): if so, I’ll change it to just a SOTY nom and go with my other choice (which I doubt anyone else has down on their lists).
thecityofbrass (7:01:34 PM): go with your gut Danielle!
penguinonesie (7:01:50 PM): ‘Welcome to the Black Parade’ by My Chemical Romance.
Muzzakfan (7:01:59 PM): nice!
thecityofbrass (7:01:59 PM): noice
thecityofbrass (7:02:05 PM): it’s really good
penguinonesie (7:02:06 PM): I know this is a lot more recent of a release and a lot of people don’t like them, but this album does exactly what it was intended to do: change them
penguinonesie (7:02:41 PM): They’re still dark, but much more serious about things and the guitar work on this one is astounding.
penguinonesie (7:03:08 PM): I think the reason so many people hated them is because of their popularity with the younger set, but I’ve heard lots of opinions change on this album.
Muzzakfan (7:03:11 PM): I heard one track recently and I was surprised it was them.
Muzzakfan (7:03:14 PM): Really liked it
Evil dez has entered the chat room.
thecityofbrass (7:03:49 PM): we got Dez!
Evil dez (7:03:56 PM): i have three minutes
Muzzakfan (7:04:03 PM): hi
thecityofbrass (7:04:10 PM): Danielle’s just finishing up her picks
mxdwnrobert (7:04:12 PM): welcome Dez
penguinonesie (7:04:32 PM): okay, SOTY 1
penguinonesie (7:04:46 PM): ‘Sing Songs Along’ by Tilly and the Wall
Evil dez (7:04:51 PM): how about long will this take?
thecityofbrass (7:05:07 PM): not too long
penguinonesie (7:05:11 PM): Their music has a harmonic indie sound much loved by hipsters, but with extra elements that add to the pure awesomeness.
penguinonesie (7:05:25 PM): I mean, using a tap dancer instead of drums?! How cool is that? Plus, they’re tight with Bright Eyes and make amazing music videos for $20. Props for that alone.
Evil dez (7:05:40 PM): okay i’ll be back shortly
penguinonesie (7:06:14 PM): Though not the most famous track from the album, my last SOTY choice is ‘Mama’ from Black Parade
penguinonesie (7:06:47 PM): It’s just so different from all their other music, much more cabaret-polka and even slightly metal at parts.
penguinonesie (7:07:12 PM): But then Liza Minnelli comes in with a solo followed by an evil sounding chorus. It just smacks you in the face and you have to listen to it again because you have no idea what the hell just happened. Then you’re addicted.
Muzzakfan (7:07:25 PM): seriously?
thecityofbrass (7:07:30 PM): they got Liza Minnelli on that track?
penguinonesie (7:07:44 PM): haha, yeah
audiovirus2828 (7:07:46 PM): how the hell did they make that happen
thecityofbrass (7:07:53 PM): HAHAHAHAHA
audiovirus2828 (7:08:04 PM): O:-)
thecityofbrass (7:08:10 PM): great picks Danielle!
penguinonesie (7:08:10 PM): they used her because their grandmother loved her
mxdwnrobert (7:08:17 PM): now there’s a surprise
penguinonesie (7:08:18 PM): its so funny
Muzzakfan (7:08:25 PM): I am listening now..
Muzzakfan (7:08:26 PM): have to
thecityofbrass (7:08:29 PM): hahahaahaa
thecityofbrass (7:08:34 PM): thoughts everyone?
baker2thextrme (7:08:36 PM): I’m all about the tap-dancin’
penguinonesie (7:09:07 PM): its towards the end, she has a short solo and then you can hear her crying and screaming a but in the last part
penguinonesie (7:09:14 PM): *bit
Muzzakfan (7:09:20 PM): OMG
Muzzakfan (7:09:28 PM): too good to be true
penguinonesie (7:10:10 PM): i want to see her go on stage with them, haha
baker2thextrme has left the chat room.
thecityofbrass (7:10:27 PM): i bet you that happens!
thecityofbrass (7:10:38 PM): at like an MTV VMAs-style show
audiovirus2828 (7:10:39 PM): yeah, it so will
audiovirus2828 (7:10:43 PM): hell yeah
baker2thextrme has entered the chat room.
penguinonesie (7:11:15 PM): that would be quite possibly the coolest/funniest thing ever
Muzzakfan (7:11:17 PM): I want to be there
thecityofbrass (7:12:10 PM): hahahaa
thecityofbrass (7:12:16 PM): alright
audiovirus2828 (7:12:17 PM): meee too
thecityofbrass (7:12:22 PM): Robert, you’re up next
mxdwnrobert (7:12:29 PM): well alright
mxdwnrobert (7:12:41 PM): this was a tough one, how to spend my last nom
mxdwnrobert (7:12:58 PM): but here goes, for AOTY I’m going with
thecityofbrass (7:13:04 PM): …………….
mxdwnrobert (7:13:08 PM): A Garden Ruin by Calexico
mxdwnrobert (7:13:28 PM): I don’t usually listen to this much roots music but, it’s just been that kind of year
mxdwnrobert (7:13:39 PM): their most approachable album to date but still retains the sun baked desert feel with layered arrangements.
mxdwnrobert (7:14:03 PM): Tales of big blue skies, wide open spaces, smoky bars, and nefarious desert doings. Kind of a cowboy experimental. If Sigur Ros were from New Mexico…
mxdwnrobert (7:14:11 PM): they might sound something like this
penguinonesie (7:14:17 PM): wow, I totally thought that said sun baked dessert
Muzzakfan (7:14:24 PM): ha
mxdwnrobert (7:14:26 PM): special brownies?
thecityofbrass (7:14:38 PM): hahahahahaha
mxdwnrobert (7:14:45 PM): for SOTY
thecityofbrass (7:14:46 PM): roooooots music man
mxdwnrobert (7:14:57 PM): The Coral Sea: Lake and Ocean
mxdwnrobert (7:15:05 PM): I already nominated the album
mxdwnrobert (7:15:16 PM): this is one of the standout tracks for me
mxdwnrobert (7:15:30 PM): A heartbreaker, an I hate love today kind of song
mxdwnrobert (7:15:47 PM): featuring an atmospheric, spacey arrangement alternating with lush strings that builds tension til it feels like it might break… reminiscent of OK Computer’s finest moments
Muzzakfan (7:15:54 PM): wow
penguinonesie (7:16:05 PM): oooooh anything ok computer-ish is great by me
thecityofbrass (7:16:09 PM): that’s a bold statement
mxdwnrobert (7:16:15 PM): obviously I think highly of this undiscovered album
baker2thextrme (7:16:20 PM): I’m sold
thecityofbrass (7:16:22 PM): shit yeah!
Muzzakfan (7:16:26 PM): cant wait
mxdwnrobert (7:16:27 PM): Song 2
mxdwnrobert (7:16:36 PM): Los Lobos: Chuco’s Cumbia
baker2thextrme (7:16:45 PM): rad
mxdwnrobert (7:16:51 PM): A bluesy, East L.A. take on a Cuban Cumbia
penguinonesie (7:17:13 PM): si si!
mxdwnrobert (7:17:15 PM): with a great rootsy electric guitar solo, reminds me of the kind of records blues-influenced Latino artists used to make in L.A. way back when.
mxdwnrobert (7:17:27 PM): It betters Ry Cooders interpretation of the same vein of music on his last effort Chavez Ravine
mxdwnrobert (7:17:52 PM): a nod to L.A. natives
Muzzakfan (7:18:00 PM): hey!
Muzzakfan (7:18:12 PM): I am a native 🙂
mxdwnrobert (7:18:24 PM): and a nod to you too!
thecityofbrass (7:18:53 PM): awesome
thecityofbrass (7:18:57 PM): very good Robert
thecityofbrass (7:19:11 PM): thoughts everyone?
Muzzakfan (7:19:26 PM): I am listening…I like the energy
Muzzakfan (7:19:36 PM): of the song
mxdwnrobert (7:19:41 PM): which one?
thecityofbrass (7:19:41 PM): i feel scooped on Calexico, but I can vouch for Los Lobos
thecityofbrass (7:19:46 PM): good stuff!
Muzzakfan (7:19:48 PM): Los Lobos
mxdwnrobert (7:19:53 PM): ah yeah
penguinonesie (7:19:56 PM): love los lobos
mxdwnrobert (7:20:09 PM): it’s in spanish so, sorry if you don’t hablas
Evil dez (7:20:19 PM): cumbias are dirty
mxdwnrobert (7:20:25 PM): good ones are
penguinonesie (7:20:39 PM): well, I’ll understand it and telly uo guys if it is
Evil dez (7:20:44 PM): no, it’s “dirty” because it’s a “common” rhythym
thecityofbrass (7:21:02 PM): you ready to roll Dez?
Evil dez (7:21:08 PM): Kinky’s Mas has a cumbia bassline
Evil dez (7:21:14 PM): yea
thecityofbrass (7:21:17 PM): awesome
thecityofbrass (7:21:19 PM): you’re up next
Evil dez (7:21:30 PM): er, what do i do?
thecityofbrass (7:21:35 PM): welp
thecityofbrass (7:21:44 PM): first state your selection for Album of the Year
Evil dez (7:21:50 PM): Reina by Kinky
thecityofbrass (7:21:53 PM): then give a little description of why you picked it
mxdwnrobert (7:21:55 PM): awesome
Evil dez (7:22:02 PM): because it’s cool
Evil dez (7:22:04 PM): hee hee hee
mxdwnrobert (7:22:07 PM): lol
thecityofbrass (7:22:07 PM): haahahaaha
mxdwnrobert (7:22:10 PM): true that
Evil dez (7:22:17 PM): because if it don’t make your booty move, your booty must be dead
thecityofbrass (7:22:20 PM): OMG Teh Hotness album!
Muzzakfan (7:22:41 PM): apparently, unless it involves Justin Timberlake
Evil dez (7:22:45 PM): it’s energetic, it’s funny, it’s a great mix of Latino goodness and electronica and some rock
Evil dez (7:23:15 PM): they’re very good at mixing “American” sounds with traditional Latin ones (like cumbias!)
Evil dez (7:23:42 PM): okay now what? 🙂
thecityofbrass (7:23:45 PM): awesome
thecityofbrass (7:23:48 PM): now
thecityofbrass (7:23:56 PM): give your 2 picks for Song of the Year
thecityofbrass (7:24:07 PM): and a brief little description about why you picked each of them
Evil dez (7:24:07 PM): 1) Little Lover’s So Polite by Silversun Pickups
Evil dez (7:24:15 PM): (hope i got that title right)
Evil dez (7:24:36 PM): it’s a perfect mixture of melody and reverb
mxdwnrobert (7:24:39 PM): I like this song a lot
Evil dez (7:24:55 PM): something the goddamn Dagons would do well to learn
Evil dez (7:24:58 PM): *cough*
thecityofbrass (7:25:02 PM): hahahahaaa
Evil dez (7:25:25 PM): 2) Sketches (Twenty Something Life) by La Rocca
Evil dez (7:25:40 PM): to see why, go here: http://www.mxdwn.com/reviews/2006/La_Rocca/The_Truth
Evil dez (7:25:41 PM): 😀
Evil dez (7:26:00 PM): that’s it!
thecityofbrass (7:26:07 PM): great
thecityofbrass (7:26:14 PM): now we give the group a chance to respond
