thecityofbrass (7:38:27 PM): i’m gonna pick who goes when randomly via a little script I made
thecityofbrass (7:38:30 PM): each person
thecityofbrass (7:38:43 PM): will name their one Album of the Year Nomination
thecityofbrass (7:38:51 PM): and two Song of the Year nominations
thecityofbrass (7:38:59 PM): you have about a minute total
thecityofbrass (7:39:04 PM): to give a brief explanation
thecityofbrass (7:39:15 PM): of why you’ve selected
thecityofbrass (7:39:18 PM): said song or album
thecityofbrass (7:39:26 PM): so about 30 seconds a pop
thecityofbrass (7:39:42 PM): once you’ve finished with your explanation
thecityofbrass (7:39:47 PM): we’ll all have a little bit to respond
thecityofbrass (7:39:49 PM): if we like
thecityofbrass (7:39:50 PM): and then
thecityofbrass (7:39:58 PM): we’ll go to the next person
thecityofbrass (7:40:00 PM): and so on
thecityofbrass (7:40:08 PM): until each of has made our noms

freshstyles26 (7:41:30 PM): woooo
freshstyles26 (7:41:41 PM): alright, gimme a sec, i’ve got to set a solid pace
thecityofbrass (7:41:47 PM): haha
thecityofbrass (7:41:48 PM): sure
freshstyles26 (7:42:08 PM): ummmm – alright, there’s no need for superfluous banter so i’ll make my descriptions brief
freshstyles26 (7:42:21 PM): 1. The Strokes – First Impressions of Earth
freshstyles26 (7:44:19 PM): from the galluping intro of “you only live once” to the triumphant “Red Light” – the whole album is musically amazing. Lyrically minimalist? Yes. But fuck it, I’ll read a book if I need to find meaning in something
freshstyles26 (7:44:22 PM): cool?
freshstyles26 (7:44:28 PM): is that good enough ray ray?
thecityofbrass (7:44:31 PM): haha
thecityofbrass (7:44:39 PM): sure
freshstyles26 (7:44:43 PM): coo’
thecityofbrass (7:44:46 PM): continue
freshstyles26 (7:45:47 PM): SOTY – “Young Folks” by Peter, Bjorn, and John
freshstyles26 (7:46:32 PM): this is the true “Whistle Song” — now, i could ramble on and on ’bout the song — but this should be more than enough
freshstyles26 (7:46:34 PM): :
freshstyles26 (7:46:37 PM): hold up
freshstyles26 (7:47:32 PM): youtube “young folks” — indie/artsy pop
freshstyles26 (7:47:41 PM): hipster style bitches!!!
thecityofbrass (7:47:57 PM): sure thing
thecityofbrass (7:48:01 PM): and #2?
freshstyles26 (7:48:09 PM): youtube
freshstyles26 (7:48:28 PM): ray, do we only have 2 noms for the whole thing?
thecityofbrass (7:48:35 PM): 1 album, 2 songs
freshstyles26 (7:48:50 PM): shit – gots to make this one count
thecityofbrass (7:48:55 PM): hahaha
freshstyles26 (7:49:20 PM): Lily Allen’s LDN, though I believe that this is only available on import at the moment
freshstyles26 (7:49:30 PM): anyone know for sure??
freshstyles26 (7:50:25 PM): hello?
mxdwnbrendan (7:50:27 PM): nope
thecityofbrass (7:50:28 PM): yes
thecityofbrass (7:50:30 PM): you’re right
thecityofbrass (7:50:33 PM): but that counts
thecityofbrass (7:50:48 PM): amazon
freshstyles26 (7:51:43 PM): in that case —- that’s it —– funky female fronted pop with horns and a dash of reggae flairr
thecityofbrass (7:51:49 PM): money
freshstyles26 (7:51:51 PM): flairrrrrrrrrrr
thecityofbrass (7:51:59 PM): hahahha
thecityofbrass (7:52:05 PM): alrighty
freshstyles26 (7:52:08 PM): gets my ass a’shakin’ —
thecityofbrass (7:52:09 PM): thoughts anyone?
ToonTownHooligan (7:53:27 PM): Ok, that video for “Young Folks” is like Hannah Barbara doing animation from the twilight zone
baker2thextrme (7:53:32 PM): k
mxdwnbrendan (7:53:43 PM): the strokes album was a good pick. i havent gotten to listen to the whole thing but it sounded pretty good. i know nothing about the other 2
freshstyles26 (7:53:46 PM): and it’s ldn
audiovirus2828 (7:54:04 PM): yeah, me neither
freshstyles26 (7:54:15 PM): well then brendan — you came into this chatroom a boy and are leaving a man
ToonTownHooligan (7:54:19 PM): However, I will say that the song is poppy as hell
thecityofbrass (7:54:20 PM): haahahaahahaa
freshstyles26 (7:54:33 PM): the peter bjorn?
thecityofbrass (7:54:33 PM): not my favorite Strokes album — but still a good one
baker2thextrme (7:54:46 PM): indeed
ToonTownHooligan (7:54:48 PM): I second that one, ray
mxdwnbrendan (7:54:59 PM): well damn good thing i didnt forget about this!
mxdwnbrendan (7:55:09 PM): in reference to my newly acquired manhood
thecityofbrass (7:55:20 PM): alright, let’s move on to the next person
baker2thextrme (7:55:26 PM): ray, I’m gonna switch puters real quick. Please invite me back
thecityofbrass (7:55:33 PM): roger
baker2thextrme has left the chat room.
thecityofbrass (7:55:49 PM): Matthew
thecityofbrass (7:55:51 PM): you’re up next
thecityofbrass (7:55:59 PM): wait till Brendan’s back though cool?
mxdwnbrendan (7:56:09 PM): wait what
thecityofbrass (7:56:19 PM): oh soryr
thecityofbrass (7:56:20 PM): my bad
thecityofbrass (7:56:26 PM): until Baker’s back
ToonTownHooligan (7:56:37 PM):
baker2thextrme has entered the chat room.
thecityofbrass (7:56:48 PM): don’t pull a hammy
thecityofbrass (7:56:50 PM): alright
thecityofbrass (7:56:53 PM): Matthew’s up next
thecityofbrass (7:57:03 PM): go for it Matthew
ToonTownHooligan (7:58:06 PM): My first album nom goes to Philly locals The Roots and their jaw-dropper of an album, Game Theory
ToonTownHooligan (7:59:34 PM): It takes a lot for a modern hip-hop album to really keep my attention, let alone garner a recomendation to friends
ToonTownHooligan (8:00:32 PM): However, as 06 pressed on, more hip-hop grabbed me by the ears. This album pulls the hardest in the most welcoming of ways
mxdwnbrendan (8:01:16 PM): usually you have to pay extra for that
thecityofbrass (8:01:21 PM): hahahaa
ToonTownHooligan (8:01:25 PM): Great rhymes, beats, production, all of it.
thecityofbrass (8:01:25 PM): and for songs?
ToonTownHooligan (8:02:31 PM): Song #1 for me is “Volcanoes” by Islands. To be quite honest I’ve listened to this at least twice a week since reviewing the album.
freshstyles26 (8:03:17 PM): GREAT ALBUM!
freshstyles26 (8:03:34 PM): ex-unicorns rep yo hood
ToonTownHooligan (8:04:08 PM): From its opening apocalypse prediction, to the rockabilly skiffle, orchestral interludes, and guitar conclusion, I can’t get enough of that song
thecityofbrass (8:04:16 PM): nice
thecityofbrass (8:04:56 PM): #2?
ToonTownHooligan (8:06:00 PM): Song #2 for me is “We’re Not Alone” by Peeping Tom.
thecityofbrass (8:06:20 PM): ack! stole my nom!
audiovirus2828 (8:06:33 PM): hahahah
ToonTownHooligan (8:06:35 PM): Unfortunately Ray, I’m not trying to get brownie points. Sorry about the theivery, but
thecityofbrass (8:06:41 PM): hahaa
ToonTownHooligan (8:06:42 PM): Damn,
ToonTownHooligan (8:07:32 PM): This song shows so much depth for both Patton and The Dub Trio – who’s album I first heard it on.
ToonTownHooligan (8:08:43 PM): Mike Patton is a master on the mic and the Trio are top class sessioners that move from mid-70s reggae to metal almost unnoticeably.
thecityofbrass (8:08:51 PM): awesome Matthew
ToonTownHooligan (8:08:52 PM): magnifique
thecityofbrass (8:09:00 PM): gotta say man
thecityofbrass (8:09:06 PM): that song 0wns
ToonTownHooligan (8:09:18 PM): IT OWNS!!!!!!!!!
thecityofbrass (8:09:22 PM): hahahaha
thecityofbrass (8:09:52 PM): and big ups to the song with Busdriver and Subtitle on the Islands album
thecityofbrass (8:10:09 PM): great material!
ToonTownHooligan (8:10:52 PM): word word
freshstyles26 (8:11:03 PM): Shakira’s Fijacion Oral blows Peeping Tom out of the water =)
thecityofbrass (8:11:06 PM): anyone else have anything they’d like to add?
thecityofbrass (8:11:09 PM): hahahaha
baker2thextrme (8:11:13 PM): lol
ToonTownHooligan (8:11:24 PM): leave it to a hipster
thecityofbrass (8:11:27 PM): alright, Jamie — you’re up next!
freshstyles26 (8:11:31 PM): lol
audiovirus2828 (8:11:40 PM): k!
thecityofbrass (8:12:17 PM): go for it
audiovirus2828 (8:13:06 PM): album: Evaline – Postpartum Modesty: A Portrait of Skin
audiovirus2828 (8:16:17 PM): From start to finish, every song on this album is, in my opinion, incredibly solid. Every player is highlighted in the band.
audiovirus2828 (8:16:39 PM): Each song has its “hooks”. Lyrically, well-written. Melodies and harmonies are catchy, yet simply beautiful.
audiovirus2828 (8:16:55 PM): As a band, they do incorporate unexpected curve balls-stuff you wouldn’t expect to be thrown at you. Instrumentation is well-written as well.
thecityofbrass (8:17:57 PM): very nice
ToonTownHooligan (8:18:29 PM): interesante
thecityofbrass (8:19:03 PM): and for songs?
audiovirus2828 (8:19:35 PM): 1st: Hybrid “Just For Today”
audiovirus2828 (8:20:38 PM): It is the single from their most recent album- I Choose Noise. Very strong electronica song. Takes you on an 8 minute symphonic adventure. The string writing really catches me.
audiovirus2828 (8:21:20 PM): They collaborated with notable film composer, Harry Gregson Williams on this song.
ToonTownHooligan (8:21:40 PM): Great soundtrack guy
mxdwnbrendan (8:21:43 PM): the title track on i choose noise is also really sick
audiovirus2828 (8:21:43 PM): fuck yeah
thecityofbrass (8:21:53 PM): haha
thecityofbrass (8:21:57 PM): and #2?
audiovirus2828 (8:22:53 PM): Tool’s “Vicarious”
ToonTownHooligan (8:23:18 PM): THIEF
mxdwnbrendan (8:23:34 PM): haha number 2!
thecityofbrass (8:23:39 PM): hahahaa
freshstyles26 (8:23:48 PM): lol
audiovirus2828 (8:24:43 PM): Instrumentally, it is your typical Tool. However, I feel it is evolved because of Maynard’s vocal tone. Also, the lyrics are genius. And as usual, his vocal is extremely powerful. It builds through out the song. The end.
thecityofbrass (8:24:56 PM): muy bueno
thecityofbrass (8:25:01 PM): nice job Jamie!
audiovirus2828 (8:25:04 PM): and sorry for stealing!!
thecityofbrass (8:25:09 PM): hahahahaa
audiovirus2828 (8:25:13 PM): 😉 thank youuu
thecityofbrass (8:25:18 PM): gotta love the thievery
thecityofbrass (8:25:29 PM): serves you right Matthew!
audiovirus2828 (8:25:30 PM): ha
thecityofbrass (8:25:41 PM): alright, any more thoughts on Jamie’s choices everyone?
audiovirus2828 (8:25:42 PM): i am just happy to have found fellow Hybrid lovers
ToonTownHooligan (8:25:44 PM): That’s cool. Plus, typical Tool is better than most, right? Right.
audiovirus2828 (8:25:49 PM): haha
thecityofbrass (8:25:56 PM): a very good point Matthew
ToonTownHooligan (8:25:56 PM): Stay out of this, Ray 🙂
audiovirus2828 (8:25:56 PM): true. very.
baker2thextrme (8:25:59 PM): exactly
thecityofbrass (8:26:06 PM): quality art metal right there
thecityofbrass (8:26:15 PM): haahaa
baker2thextrme (8:26:22 PM): I think i took that class
ToonTownHooligan (8:26:27 PM): You sounded midwestern there
thecityofbrass (8:26:32 PM): haahaha
thecityofbrass (8:26:35 PM): let’s keep it rolling!
thecityofbrass (8:26:40 PM): Brendan
thecityofbrass (8:26:42 PM): you’re up!
mxdwnbrendan (8:26:47 PM): sweet
mxdwnbrendan (8:27:42 PM): ok so i know im the metal/hardcore guy but Morrissey’s “Ringleader of the Tormentors” was freaking awesome
mxdwnbrendan (8:28:43 PM): it sounded the most like the smiths of anything he’s done outside of the band. the first track sounds like it has 19 orchestras in it and “you have killed me” might as well have been on the queen is dead
mxdwnbrendan (8:29:18 PM): the record was outstanding period.
thecityofbrass (8:30:36 PM): sweet
ToonTownHooligan (8:30:43 PM): sold
thecityofbrass (8:30:49 PM): and for songs?
mxdwnbrendan (8:31:21 PM): song 1: The Avalanche – Sufjan Stevens. the avalanche (CD) was the record t
