CBGB didn’t become famous for country, bluegrass, and blues, as the name might have suggested, but perhaps punk rock and new wave could be classified under “Other Music for Uplifting Gormandizers,” the rest of the club’s acronym moniker. Since 1973 CBGB has been an icon of New York punk rock, synonymous with the Ramones, Patti Smith, Blondie, Talking Heads, Television, and Sonic Youth. Last night a few of those artists returned to the legendary site to say goodbye. Patti Smith was the official last act at the venue and played a two-and-a-half hour set referencing many of the acts the club helped make famous.
Club owner Hilly Kristal is currently scoping out locations in Las Vegas to move every poster, stool and urinal of CBGB to its second life.http://www.billboard.com/bbcom/news/article_display.jsp?vnu_content_id=1003255051
