Lou Rawls died on Friday of lung and brain cancer at the age of 72. Rawls enjoyed a fifty-year career in show business, selling forty million albums and winning three Grammys. Rawls sang in a variety of genres including jazz, gospel, blues, soul and pop, and found success in all. In the 1960s he was active in encouraging children to work hard in school and helped raise hundreds of millions of dollars for the United Negro College Fund in the 1980s.
