Banned in the USA? Not Anymore
In a misogynistic circus of heavy bass lines and synthesized madness, The Ying Yang Twins bring us their latest LP, U.S.A. – United State of Atlanta. Following in the footsteps of many other sexually driven hip-hop acts, The Ying Yang Twins have all but matched the commercial success and creativity of 2 Live Crew. Shamefully enough however, in this era of music even lyrics like “wait til’ you see my dick” can’t recreate the controversy that surrounded “Me So Horny.” Nowadays this form of expression is so common that even the FCC seems desensitized to its vulgarity on the airways.U.S.A. starts with “Fuck The Ying Yang Twins” showing that the duo doesn’t take themselves as seriously as many other acts. The comic relief ceases on the next track, “Long Time,” which is actually a soulful and conscious song featuring singer Anthony Hamilton. The socially conscious overtones continue with “Live Again,” another meaningful but more upbeat track, telling stories of women going down the wrong path, detailing the lives of strippers.
Halfway through this 23-track epic, the misogynistic games begin with a series of skits in which women reveal their desire to be manhandled and told what to do. This leads up to the club sensation “Wait,” also know as “The Whisper Song.” Followed up by “Pull My Hair,” and “Bedroom Boom,” this portion of U.S.A. might offend some senior citizens and make thrill seekers want to find a private dance of their own. They’re not quite the sexual innovators that 2 Live Crew were, but the Ying Yang Twins do manage to keep the spirit alive in style.
