USA Today columnist Whitney Matheson asked her readers to name the greatest American rock band ever and received the strongest response of her career. The voting was close, but the only surviving “grunge” band came out on top: Pearl Jam. Fans cited the band’s solid music, low ticket prices, and aversion to hype as the band’s most endearing traits. Rounding out the top ten are Aerosmith, Van Halen, The Eagles, Journey, Guns N’ Roses, The Grateful Dead, Queensryche, The Doors, and R.E.M.http://www.usatoday.com/life/columnist/popcandy/2005-07-05-pop-candy_x.htm
