The Getup Kids Are Saying Goodbye

The Getup Kids, helped to make and refine the sub-genre known as “emo”. Countless albums, endless touring, and an impressive style helped keep them going for years. This summer, however, will mark the end of the Getup Kids. It’s to see them go. They played an agressive and melodic style of music that influenced many bands (and was imitated and duplicated as well).

While their last album wasn’t that impressive, who can forget the opening guitar riff off 4 Minute Mile? That album alone was anthemic in nature, and seeing the Getup Kids play live was just as impressive. Having seen them play every time they had ever come to Philadelphia (including the legendary Stalg 13), it feels like a part of my already dying youth is going with them.
Fortunately, they are doing one final tour, and putting out a live album, so we get one last hurrah before it’s all over.

News about the breakup (while brief) available at thegetupkids.com. Hopefully tour dates will be up there soon.
